What To Expect At Your First Session

It is completely normal to feel a little nervous before your first session after all, it is not every day that we meet someone new and open up about our personal story. Taking that first step can feel daunting, and we want you to know that whatever you are feeling right now is valid. Many clients arrive with a mix of hope, uncertainty, and perhaps even a little apprehension, and that is perfectly okay. You are not alone in feeling this way, and our goal is to make you feel as comfortable and welcome as possible from the moment you walk through our door.

Please keep in mind that confidentiality is a cornerstone of our practice. It will be discussed in detail at the beginning of your initial session, and any questions or concerns you have will be addressed thoroughly so that you can feel safe and at ease before we begin.

Before Your First Session

It is important for each client attending their first session to fill out the online Intake Form that is emailed out beforehand. This form helps your counsellor or coach gain a clearer picture of what has brought you to us and how we can best support you on your journey. We encourage you to take your time filling it out honestly as there are no right or wrong answers, only your unique experience.

Some clients find it helpful to write down a list of their symptoms and concerns, as well as some personal goals they would like to work toward. Reflecting on these ahead of time can help you feel more prepared and give your session a strong starting point. You might also consider thinking about what matters most to you right now, whether that is managing stress, improving relationships, navigating a life transition, or simply feeling more like yourself again.

If you have attended counselling or coaching before, it can be useful to reflect on what was helpful or not helpful during those previous experiences. This kind of insight allows us to tailor our approach to better suit your needs and avoid repeating anything that did not resonate with you in the past.

If this is your very first time seeking counselling or coaching, we want you to take a moment to acknowledge yourself. It takes real courage to reach out for support, and by doing so, you have already taken one of the most important steps toward achieving your goals. That is something worth celebrating.

During Your First Session

Your first session is primarily about getting to know one another. There is no pressure to share everything at once and we will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Your counsellor or coach will ask questions to better understand your background, your current challenges, and what you are hoping to achieve. Together, you will begin to outline a plan that is thoughtfully designed around your individual needs and circumstances.

Think of this session as an open conversation rather than an assessment. We are here to listen without judgment, to help you feel heard, and to start building a foundation of trust that will support your growth throughout our time together.

Your Feedback Matters

Your experience and satisfaction are our highest priority. If at any point you feel that the service provided is not quite meeting your needs, we warmly encourage you to let your practitioner know. Open and honest communication between you and your counsellor or coach is an essential part of the therapeutic process, and your feedback will always be received with respect and care. Our practitioners are committed to working collaboratively with you to adjust their approach so that your sessions feel as effective and meaningful as possible.

At Wellflow, we are deeply committed to providing you with an exceptional standard of care that empowers you to develop a greater sense of health, balance, and wellbeing in your life. We are honoured to be a part of your journey, and we look forward to meeting you.
